Hongkong Post announced today (June 29) that a set of special stamps, "Children Stamps - Chinese and Foreign Folklore", together with associated philatelic products will be released for sale on July 16 (Thursday).
Traditional folklore features diverse themes with stories full of imagination and valuable lessons and philosophies about life. The intriguing storylines and lively language of these narratives appeal to children, and their colourful characters convey simple, positive messages. Using a vibrant colour scheme, the "Children Stamps - Chinese and Foreign Folklore" special stamps present six childhood stories from around the world on the theme of endurance.
The six time-honoured tales are "The Old Man Who Moved Mountains" ($1.70 stamp), "The Tortoise and the Hare" ($2.20 stamp), "The Little Engine That Could" ($2.90 stamp), "The Wild Swans" ($3.10 stamp), "The Three Little Pigs" ($3.70 stamp) and "The Parable of the Pipeline" ($5 stamp). Through these stories, the "Children Stamps - Chinese and Foreign Folklore" stamp issue educates children about the importance of perseverance in achieving their goals while also stimulating their interest in philately.
In addition to gummed stamps, a gummed souvenir sheet and a self-adhesive souvenir sheet, this issue will feature a presentation pack containing a set of six gummed stamps and a souvenir pack containing six self-adhesive stamp sheetlets with four stamps each. These philatelic products will appeal to children and adults alike.
Official First Day Covers will be on sale at $1.20 each at all post offices from July 2. The stamps and the associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from July 2 to 8.
