Further to endorsing an increase in the approved project estimate of the Sludge Treatment Facility (STF) last month, the Legislative Council Public Works Subcommittee (the Subcommittee) conducted a visit today (June 27) to STF, where the first phase of plant facilities has commenced operation, to gain first-hand information about the sludge treatment process.
Members arrived at STF in Nim Wan, Tuen Mun in the morning and received a briefing by representatives of the Environmental Protection Department on the construction of STF and the operation of the facilities.
Accompanied by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, Members then visited a number of places at STF, including the Continuous Emission Monitoring System Room, the Central Control Room, the Turbine, the Condenser and the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant so as to have a better understanding of the sludge treatment process.
Members who participated in the visit included members of the Subcommittee, Mr Alan Leong (Chairman of the Subcommittee), Mr Tam Yiu-chung, Mr Gary Fan and Mr Chan Chi-chuen.
