Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 737 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 69 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (June 26).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 324 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 613 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 124 for other traffic offences.

     Three pedestrians and 110 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 1 137 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May 2015, of which 368 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 37.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
