The Hong Kong Museum of Art will be closed from August 3 for major renovation work to increase exhibition space and upgrade its facilities, which is expected to be completed in about three years.
To give members of the public a chance to bid farewell to the old Museum of Art building and share this important moment, the "See U MA" event will run for about one month before the museum's closure. From June 30 to August 2, visitors are invited to take photos of people, activities and exhibits in the Museum of Art or in the Art Square at Salisbury Garden and upload them onto Instagram, hashtag "#SEEUMA", to share their precious memories of the museum with others. Souvenirs will be offered for successful uploads. Thirty-five "Weekly Star Photo" and 10 "Campaign Masterpiece Photo" winners will receive a gift package. In addition, admission ticket holders to the Museum of Art or museum pass holders visiting the museum from tomorrow (June 27) to August 2 will each receive a souvenir while stocks last. Those who purchase museum publications in the museum book shop will get a 15 per cent discount and can also enjoy a maximum 70 per cent discount on selected items in the book shop.
The Museum of Art is located at 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Current thematic exhibitions include "The Wonders of Bamboo: Chinese Bamboo Carving Donated by Dr Ip Yee", "Donation of Works by Wu Guanzhong 2014", "All Are Guests - Homecoming" and "The Four Gentlemen: A Selection of Flower Paintings from the Hong Kong Museum of Art Collection".
