Chief Executive appoints new term Harbourfront Commission members
**********************************************************

The Government announced today (June 26) the Chief Executive's appointment of 30 members to serve on the Harbourfront Commission (HC) for a new term commencing on July 1, 2015.

The new term HC comprises 12 non-official organisation members, 10 non-official individual members (including the Chairperson) and eight official members. Mr Charles Nicholas Brooke is re-appointed as Chairperson of the Commission for a one-year term from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, who will continue to assume the position of Vice-Chairperson of the Commission, welcomed the appointments and re-appointments.

"In the past two-year term, the HC has continued to offer steadfast support and useful advice on harbourfront planning, design and management. The broad-based composition of the membership has allowed the Government to absorb professional views from a multitude of dimensions including planning, architecture, engineering, urban design, environmental protection, legal and business, and to reach out further to stakeholders and the community for promoting harbourfront development," Mr Chan said.

Under the established "six-year-rule" to ensure a healthy turnover of members of advisory bodies, five non-official individual members of the Commission are re-appointed for a new term of one year (from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016). They are Mr Charles Nicholas Brooke (as Chairperson), Mr Chan Hok-fung, Ms Lily Chow, Mr Eric Fok Kai-shan, and Mr Vincent Ng Wing-shun. The rest of the Commission is appointed or re-appointed for a new term of two years (from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017).

To support the concept of a "water-friendly culture" as raised in the Policy Address this year, three new non-official individual members with water recreation and sports backgrounds are appointed in the new term. They are Mr Hans Joachim Isler, Mr Kan Chak-fun and Ms Vivian Lee Ying-shih.

"The newly appointed non-official members possess vast experience and expertise in their respective fields of water activities. I am confident that they could provide fresh ideas on bringing vibrancy to the harboufront and help deliver the Government's vision of a water-friendly culture," Mr Chan said.

"I also wish to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr Brooke for his excellent chairmanship and dedication to the HC, and all the re-appointed and outgoing members for their invaluable contribution to the work of the Commission. We will maintain our close-knit partnership with the Commission in pursuing harbourfront policy and building a world-class harbourfront for the people of Hong Kong," he added.
