Contractors fined for violation of safety legislations

Hip Hing Construction Company Limited and Chi Kan Formwork Company Limited were fined $200,000 and $280,000 respectively at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (June 25) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on September 23, 2011, in Chek Lap Kok. A worker fell onto protruding steel rebar and was impaled to his death while dismantling the formwork of a parapet.
