************************************************************

Hong Kong Customs seized about 3 kilograms of suspected liquid cocaine worth about $3.4 million at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (June 24) and arrested an incoming male passenger.

The arrested person arrived in Hong Kong from São Paulo, Brazil, via Amsterdam, the Netherlands, yesterday. During Customs clearance, Customs officers found four packets of alleged handwash. An X-ray check revealed suspicious images inside the packets. In-depth examination subsequently led to the discovery of the suspected liquid cocaine concealed inside the packets.

The arrested person, aged 39 and claiming to be a worker, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (June 26).

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
