Margaret Lau to hold lecture series on ballet stars and repertoire

     Local ballet educator Margaret Lau will hold a ballet lecture series from July to September to introduce well-known ballet stars and repertoire.

     Many dance works have won acclaim by virtue of highly skilled dancers who command the stage and engage the audience with their unique aura. Great dancers of exceptional talent can demonstrate the same virtuosity whether in a traditional classic or a newly choreographed modern dance, and it is this amazing stage presence that makes their audience fall in love with them.

     The lectures will take place at AC1, Level 4, Administration Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. They will be conducted in Cantonese and supplemented with video clips of repertoire, and will commence at 7.30pm. Details are as follows:

July 16 (Thursday): "Sleeping Beauty"

     Margaret Lau holds a bachelor of arts degree as well as a postgraduate diploma in education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a master of arts degree from the University of Hong Kong. A dance critic and feature writer for various magazines and newspapers in Hong Kong, she has worked as a researcher for the ballet section of the publication "A Dance History of Hong Kong". Her other engagements include writing feature articles, conducting dance talks and translating house programmes for dance performances. She was the translator of teaching materials and prospectuses for the teaching certificate programmes of the Royal Academy of Dance.

     The lectures are presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and tickets priced at $50 for each lecture are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients and students available on a first-come, first-served basis). A discount of 10 per cent is offered for a single purchase of five or more lectures' tickets.
