A total of 326 winners of the Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards 2014 were commended today (June 6) for their outstanding contributions in disseminating anti-drug messages, fight crime messages, organising and participating in community services.
They received commendation trophies from the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Wong Chi-hung; Chairperson of JPC Scheme and Chief Superintendent of Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB), Mr Hui Chun-tak; and the Group General Manager & Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific of HSBC, Mr Raymond Cheng, at the presentation ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Hui pointed out that the JPC Scheme aimed at encouraging youths to become youth leaders and fight crime partners. Adopting an inter-departmental multi-agency approach, the JPC Scheme organised various activities to convey fight crime and anti-drug messages and to help members acquire positive values.
As of today, the JPC Scheme has almost 210 000 members, of which more than 3 000 members are non-ethic Chinese. Mr Hui further thanked JPC honorary presidents, school principals, teachers, JPC district councils and school clubs for their unfailing support to the smooth progress of the JPC Scheme.
Mr Cheng said HSBC has been a strong supporter of education, in particular projects that help students to have holistic development. HSBC is proud to have funded the JPC Awards Scheme since 1986 with the view to encouraging the youth of Hong Kong to participate in community services, unleash their potential and nurture their leadership skills.
The JPC Awards Scheme is organised by the Police and sponsored by HSBC. This year, besides the JPC Scheme Awards, the Anti-Crime through Innovation and Technology Competition is added to arouse the awareness of youths in using innovative yet domestic technology in crime prevention. Both awards comprise five categories, namely Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club (Secondary School), Best JPC School Club (Primary School) and Best JPC District Council.
A selection panel comprising representatives from the PPRB, HSBC and JPC Central Advisory Board selected the winners from those recommended by districts.
Miss Yiu Lan-hin from Kwai Tsing District was selected as the Best JPC Member and Miss Wan Hiu-tung from Sham Shui Po District was selected as the Best JPC Leader in the JPC Scheme Awards. The Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School in Tsuen Wan District and the St Bonaventure Catholic Primary School in Wong Tai Sin District won the Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) awards respectively. The Best JPC District Council award went to Sham Shui Po JPC District Council.
Mr Cheung Wai-po from Marine Port District and Mr Liu Kwan-ko from Yau Tsim District were selected as the Best JPC Member and the Best JPC Leader respectively in the Anti-Crime through Innovation and Technology Competition. The Best JPC School Club (Secondary School), the Best JPC School Club (Primary School) and the Best JPC District Council awards went to Bethel High School in Yuen Long District, Fung Kai Innovative School in Tai Po District and Mong Kok JPC District Council.
