Fatal traffic accident in Western District

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Western District yesterday (June 1), in which a 52-year-old expatriate woman died.
 
    About 5pm yesterday, a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driven by a 39-year-old man was travelling along an unnamed road downslope towards Pok Fu Lam Road. When reaching Pok Fu Lam Road, the HGV reportedly lost control and rammed into a private car driven by a 52-year-old expatriate woman and the private car continued moving forward and collided with a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 39-year-old man. After the impact the private car collided with a private car driven by a 37-year-old man travelling on the opposite carriageway.

    Sustaining serious injuries, the 52-year-old private car female driver and the 55-year-old female passenger were rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in unconscious state. The expatriate female driver was certified dead at 7.20pm while the female passenger was admitted to the hospital.

    The 39-year-old HGV male driver, who sustained injuries to his neck and head, was sent to Queen Mary Hospital in conscious state and was arrested for Dangerous Driving Causing Death.

    In addition, the 39-year-old LGV male driver and the 37-year-old private car male driver sustained slight injuries and were sent to Queen Mary Hospital in conscious state.
 
    Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are under way.
