The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Mr You Quan, at Government House this afternoon (June 1) to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
Mr Leung said that the new platform of the Hong Kong/Fujian Co-operation Conference and the agreements on economic, trade and financial co-operation signed by the governments of Fujian and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region this year have brought the exchanges between the two places to a higher level and greatly promoted their development.
Noting that the country had earlier positioned Fujian as the core region of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and announced the establishment of a pilot free trade zone in Fujian, Mr Leung said that it underscored the important role played by Fujian in the country's development. Hong Kong, being an international financial and trade centre, could enhance co-operation with Fujian and act as a "super-connector" to bring about mutual benefits.
