"Discover the Basic Law" exhibition moves to Domain in Yau Tong (with photos)
***********************************************************

The "Discover the Basic Law" multimedia interactive art exhibition will open at Domain in Yau Tong tomorrow (May 30).

The exhibition is organised by the Information Services Department in partnership with the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law, and to promote a comprehensive and correct understanding of the Basic Law in the community.

Eighteen students from the HKDI have created 25 artworks inspired by the Basic Law for display. The works include illustrations, installations, typographic designs, sculptures and motion graphics.

With the use of special hand-held viewing glasses, visitors can take part in discovering hidden content, including interesting motion graphics, within several "blank" video screens.

The largest exhibit is a sculpture entitled "Book of life". With Basic Law inscriptions on two open pages, the book forms the foundation of two trees with branches showing the words "Rights" and "Freedoms". This shows that under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's rights and freedoms are protected and can be further developed.

Another attraction is an artwork entitled "Gear", featuring two meshing gears in motion. The two cogwheels symbolise the two different systems of the Mainland and Hong Kong, and show that, despite the size difference of the wheels, the Mainland and Hong Kong are complementary to each other in operation.

Details of all artworks can be found on the "Discover the Basic Law" website at  www.discoverthebasiclaw.gov.hk and are also downloadable via the mobile app "Discover the Basic Law".

The exhibition will be held at the Ground Floor Atrium of Domain at 38 Ko Chiu Road, Yau Tong, Kowloon, until June 5. The opening hours are from 11am to 9pm. Admission is free and souvenirs will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis.

The exhibition will next be staged at Level 2 at the Atrium of Sunshine City Plaza in Ma On Shan, New Territories, from June 16 to 22.

The exhibition will move to other venues until the end of this year. Dates and venues for other exhibition periods are being finalised and will be available from the website.
