TAC briefed on Government's preliminary assessment of PLB seating capacity increase proposal
**********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:

The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed today (May 26) on the Government's preliminary assessment of the proposal put forward by the public light bus (PLB) trade to increase the seating capacity of PLBs - one of the issues covered by the Topical Study under the Public Transport Strategy Study (PTSS).

The TAC Chairman, Mr Larry Kwok, said, "Members note that the PLB trade as well as other public transport trades and stakeholders are holding differing views towards the proposal. Therefore, the Committee supports the Government to conduct an in-depth study on this issue under the Role and Positioning Review (RPR) of the PTSS later on to decide whether the proposal is feasible and meritorious. In doing so, the issue would need to be considered in the context of the roles and positioning of other road-based public transport services, in order to ensure their complementarity, while affording passengers reasonable modal choices."

According to the present work plan, the entire RPR will commence in the middle of this year and is expected to be completed in about two years' time.
