"Discover the Basic Law" exhibition continues in Western District (with photos)
*********************************************************

The "Discover the Basic Law" multimedia interactive art exhibition at the Westwood in Western District will once again be a place of interest for families to visit this weekend.

Using innovative and artistic approaches, 18 students from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) have created 25 artworks inspired by the Basic Law for display. The works include illustrations, installations, typographic designs, sculptures and motion graphics.

The centrepiece and largest exhibit of the exhibition is a sculpture entitled "Book of life". With Basic Law inscriptions on two open pages, the book forms the foundation of two trees with branches showing the words "Rights" and "Freedoms". This shows that under the Basic Law, Hong Kong's rights and freedoms are protected and can be further developed.

Another attraction at the exhibition requires the use of special hand-held viewing glasses to discover hidden content within "blank" video screens.

The creative ideas for the artworks are based on the Basic Law's Preamble, Chapter I (General Principles), Chapter II (Relationship between the Central Authorities and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) and Chapter IV (Political Structure).

Organised by the Information Services Department in partnership with the HKDI to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law, the exhibition helps to promote a comprehensive and correct understanding of the Basic Law in the community, as such an understanding is crucial to maintaining Hong Kong's unique strengths.

Details of all artworks can be found on the "Discover the Basic Law" website:  www.discoverthebasiclaw.gov.hk.

The exhibition is being held at the Upper Ground Atrium of the Westwood at 8 Belcher's Street, Western District, Hong Kong, until May 25. The opening hours are from 10am to 10pm. Admission is free. Souvenirs will be distributed at the venue on a first-come, first-served basis.

The exhibition will next be held at the Ground Floor Atrium of Domain in Yau Tong, Kowloon, from May 30 to June 5.

The exhibition will move to other venues until the end of this year. Dates and venues for other exhibition periods are being finalised and will be available from the website.
