Observatory launches short video on hazards of tropical cyclones
********************************************************

The Hong Kong Observatory launched a short video on hazards of tropical cyclones today (May 22) to raise the public's awareness of preventing threats from tropical cyclones.

Through real-life visual images from typhoons in recent years, including Morakot, Utor and Haiyan, the video introduces four major threats caused by tropical cyclones, namely strong winds, rainstorms, huge waves and storm surges. As the typhoon season approaches, members of the public should be alert and stay tuned to tropical cyclone warnings and related information issued by the Observatory, and take appropriate precautions.

The short video has been produced by the Observatory on behalf of the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific/World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Typhoon Committee. The video has received worldwide support and has been publicised in the international arena. It was premiered at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Sendai, Japan, in March 2015, and has been uploaded to the WMO and Typhoon Committee websites.
