SCED to attend APEC ministerial meeting in the Philippines

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will depart for Boracay, the Philippines tomorrow (May 22) to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting to be held on May 23 and 24.

     During the MRT Meeting, trade ministers from APEC member economies will discuss the priorities for APEC this year under the theme "Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World". The priorities are (i) enhancing the regional economic integration agenda; (ii) fostering small and medium enterprises' participation in regional and global markets; (iii) investing in human capital development; and (iv) building sustainable and resilient communities. Ministers will also exchange views on how APEC could support the multilateral trading system and resist protectionism.

     Mr So will return to Hong Kong on Sunday evening (May 24). The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr So's absence.
