************************************************************

The 5th Hong Kong Games (HKG) is now in full swing, with more than 3 200 athletes from the 18 districts striving to get high scores for their districts in the eight sports competitions of the Games.

This year's HKG is taking place from April 25 to May 31. Five of the eight sports competitions of the Games, namely basketball, futsal, table tennis, tennis and volleyball, are now entering the final stages and members of the public are welcome to watch and cheer for the athletes. The competitions of athletics, badminton and swimming have been completed successfully.

Please refer to the attached timetable for details of the latest final and semi-final competition schedules and venues. Information about the 5th HKG is also available on the dedicated homepage: www.hongkonggames.hk. Spectators will have a chance to receive a HKG souvenir T-shirt printed with calligraphy written by artist Andy Lau.

Photography enthusiasts can also snap pictures of the fascinating scenes at sports competitions and participate in the 5th HKG Dynamic Moments Photo Contest. The submission deadline for the Contest is June 8. Winning entries will be announced in mid-July.

There will be prizes for the overall champion, first runner-up and second runner-up in each of the eight sports competitions. Two new prizes have been introduced this year, namely the "District with Impressive Progress" award and the "District with the Best Sportsmanship" award. These awards will give credit to districts achieving the greatest increase in the overall score in individual sports competitions as compared with the last HKG and the three districts with the highest overall average attendance of participating athletes respectively.

The three districts accumulating the highest total scores from all of the eight sports competitions will be awarded the overall champion, first runner-up and second runner-up prizes of the 5th HKG. The Games also offers other prizes such as the "District with the Most Gold Medals", "District with the Greatest Participation" and "District with the Best Progress" awards.

All competition results will be announced at the 5th HKG closing and prize presentation ceremony to be held at Kowloon Park Sports Centre on May 31.

The 5th HKG is organised by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by the Community Sports Committee with the 18 District Councils, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, relevant National Sports Associations and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as co-organisers.
