********************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (May 19) held the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Certification Award Ceremony cum Technical Seminar to commend organisations which have made efforts to achieve good indoor air quality.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, Ms Anissa Wong, praised the commitment of the premises owners and property management companies participating in the IAQ Certification Scheme, saying that their efforts helped provide a pleasant indoor air environment for users of their offices and public premises, thereby protecting public health and setting good examples for others to follow. During the ceremony, the EPD presented awards to representatives from the organisations who had obtained Excellent Class or Good Class certificates for their premises.

This year, the EPD for the first time presented special awards to the owners or property management companies of those premises which have entered the IAQ Certification Scheme for 10 years or more, and to the 10 organisations with the highest participation rates in recognition of their active participation over the years.

Since the launch of the IAQ Certification Scheme in September 2003 to promote and commend good IAQ management practice, the number of premises participating in the scheme has continually increased. By the end of 2014, 1,159 certificates had been registered, representing an increase of 19 per cent compared with the previous year. Of those certificates, 235 are Excellent Class and 924 are Good Class, while 875 of the certified premises are owned by private organisations and the remaining 284 are owned by the Government.

A technical seminar was held following today's ceremony, at which various professionals and premises managers shared tips on achieving good IAQ with participants.

Interested organisations and individuals who want to participate in or know more about the IAQ Certification Scheme can obtain the information from the IAQ Information Centre or its dedicated website at www.iaq.gov.hk.
