Regional traffic day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 725 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 50 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (May 18).
 
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 300 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
 
     A total of 591 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 134 for other traffic offences.
 
     Twelve pedestrians and 97 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
 
     Statistics revealed that a total of 904 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to April 2015, of which 294 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 37.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
