The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

The opening ceremony of the Microfinance Scheme Fair was held by the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation Limited (HKMC) today (May 15) at Olympian City 2, West Kowloon. The Microfinance Scheme Fair, which is held from May 15 to 17, aims to provide a platform for the entrepreneurs of the Microfinance Scheme (MFS) to display and promote their products and services. During the three-day fair, there will be booths hosted by the entrepreneurs, workshops to interact with the audience and guest speakers will share their entrepreneurial experience.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Tsang extended his sincere gratitude for the parties who made the MFS a success. He said, "I would like to thank the participating banks, non-governmental organisations and mentors for their tremendous support to the MFS since its launch, which is key to enabling the MFS to run smoothly and help those who wish to start their own business to have their entrepreneurial dreams come true."

To continue to encourage entrepreneurial spirit, the HKMC will extend the MFS for a further term of three years until June 28, 2018, and expand the aggregate lending amount cap of the MFS by HK$100 million to HK$200 million.

As at end of April 2015, the MFS has approved 149 cases, with a total loan amount of HK$37.82 million.

For more details about the MFS, please refer to the leaflet and information pack available on the HKMC website (www.hkmc.com.hk). For enquiries, please call the MFS Hotline: 2536 0707.
