Company fined for illegal club operation
****************************************

A company was fined $8,000 at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (May 13) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The court heard that officers from the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected a club on Mody Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, which had been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC), in December last year.

During the investigation, OLA officers found that the exit route had been obstructed. The club staff also failed to show the copy of the certificate of fire services installations and equipment. Conditions 12 and 10 of the CoC were breached.

The company, being the CoC holder, was charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department reminded all CoC holders to comply with the conditions as stipulated therein. Enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
