SCED speaks to media on tourism (with photos)
*********************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, after reaching out to the public in Ping Shek Estate today (May 2) to appeal for greater support for the Government's proposals for selecting the Chief Executive by universal suffrage:

Reporter: Do you satisfy with the number of visitors on the Labour Day? What do you think about the concern on the decreasing number of incoming tourists?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: It is very difficult, if not impossible, to gauge the situation with one-day figures. Besides, I have already indicated (that) the data actually indicated there was an increase yesterday, being May 1 year-on-year, on the number of tourists. We also hear from the retail sector, that the consumption figures actually have been affected quite substantially. So we want to understand the pattern, is there any patterns on the visitors and whether there is a shift, and if so, what kind of measures would be appropriate that we could introduce together with the private sector in terms of stimulating consumption, and giving our tourists a very comprehensive and full tourism experience. Thank you.
