Cluster of Influenza B cases in Tai Po Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Tai Po Hospital (TPH) made the following announcement today (April 30):

     Six patients (aged from 58 to 79) of a female psychiatric ward of TPH have presented with symptoms of influenza-like illness since April 27. Appropriate viral tests had been arranged for the patients and the test results of five patients were positive for Influenza B.  Among the five cases, three patients are still hospitalised in TPH and treated under isolation. The remaining two patients have been transferred to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and are being treated under isolation. All the patients are in stable condition.

     Admission and visiting to the ward have been suspended. Restricted discharging has also been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
