Judicial appointment

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (April 29) announced the appointment of Mr Robert John Whitehead, SC, as Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court. The appointment will be effective from April 30, 2015 for a term of three years.

     The appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

     The biographical note of Mr Robert John Whitehead, SC, is as follows:

     Mr Whitehead, SC, was born in 1955 in England. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales and to the Hong Kong Bar in 1977, and to the Bar of New South Wales, Australia in 1983. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and became a Chartered Arbitrator in 2000. He has been in private practice since 1978. He was appointed as Senior Counsel in 2000. He was appointed as Deputy Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court for periods in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
