The following is issued on behalf of the Small and Medium Enterprises Committee:

The Small and Medium Enterprises Committee (SMEC) today (April 28) held the "Hong Kong-Qianhai Seminar on the Opportunities to Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises brought by the Development of Qianhai". The Seminar attracted over 100 representatives from around 40 local SME organisations, major business associations, trade and industrial organisations and professional bodies.

During the Seminar, the Director-General of the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen, Mr Zhang Bei, and other representatives introduced the investment policies and preferential treatment of Qianhai, things to note for investing in Qianhai, and the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub. The Seminar highlighted opportunities for Hong Kong SMEs brought about by the development of Qianhai, and assisted enterprises in tapping the huge services industry market in the Mainland by enhancing their understanding of the investment environment in Qianhai.

The Chairman of the SMEC, Dr Jonathan Choi said, "The Authority of Qianhai has set up an office in Hong Kong and offered various concessionary policies to actively attract Hong Kong SMEs to set up business in Qianhai. The Seminar provides a useful platform for Committee Members and representatives from the business sector to exchange views directly with senior officials from Qianhai on issues relating to Hong Kong SMEs' development in Qianhai."

The SMEC advises the Government on issues affecting the development of SMEs in Hong Kong, and suggests measures to support and facilitate the development and growth of SMEs.
