Regional traffic day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 616 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 66 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (April 27).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 307 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 483 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 133 for other traffic offences.

     One pedestrian and 76 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 685 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to March 2015, of which 225 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 40 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
