The Electoral Legislation (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill 2015 was published in the Gazette today (April 17). The Bill makes necessary technical legislative amendments for the 2016 Legislative Council (LegCo) election.
"We need to make necessary technical amendments at the local legislation level on the detailed arrangements for the 2016 LegCo election. The Bill includes technical amendments concerning the electorate of the functional constituencies (FCs), the name of an FC, counting procedures and rectification of textual errors," a Government spokesman said.
"We plan to introduce the Bill into the LegCo for first and second readings on April 22, 2015. We hope that the LegCo can pass the Bill as soon as possible so that the changes could take effect as early as possible for the 2015-16 voter registration cycle," the spokesman added.
