*******************************************************

The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is presenting an art exhibition in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, for the first time, with the aim of promoting a general understanding of Hong Kong and fostering cultural exchanges between the two places.

Presented by the Liaoning Liaison Unit (LLU) of the HKSAR Government, the "One Root, One Heart" and "300 Families" joint exhibition is organised with the assistance of the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the HKSAR Government and support of the Hong Kong International Photo Festival. The exhibition opened today (April 14) and will be held for two weeks at a popular shopping mall in Shenyang.

During a guided tour of the joint exhibition today, the Director of the LLU, Mr Kilian Tung, said that the joint exhibition explores the lives of Hong Kong people from the old times to the present day as well as presents the latest developments of Hong Kong in social, economic and cultural aspects through some 200 family and news photos.

Attending the guided tour were the Vice Chairman of the Shenyang Municipal Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ms Han Xiaoyan, and officials from the Liaoning Provincial Government and the Shenyang Municipal Government, as well as representatives from the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China (Shenyang).

The joint exhibition is made up of two component exhibitions - "One Root, One Heart" and "300 Families". The former traces Hong Kong's close ties and bonds with the nation, and illustrates the closer working relationship between Hong Kong and the Mainland since the city's return to China, and covers various aspects such as regional co-operation, trade relations, finance, infrastructure and tourism. This part of the exhibition, comprising some 30 news photos taken in recent months, is presented under four sections based on the core values of Hong Kong to showcase Hong Kong's enterprising spirit, innovation, quality living and excellence.

"300 Families" zooms in on the constituents of society - families - to offer the audience a closer look at Hong Kong. This part of the exhibition features works by 12 seasoned and up-and-coming Hong Kong photographers. By viewing their photos, visitors can explore the lives of 300 families living in the metropolitan city of Hong Kong, and through their lives see the changes of Hong Kong's society over time. The 12 participating artists are Vincent Yu, Roy Lee, Bobby Sham, Amber Au, Chan Hau-chun, Vincent Mak, Thomas Lin, Lorraine Cultfish, Wei Leng Tay, Rambo Lai, Ducky Tse and Tse Ming-chong.

The joint exhibition will run from today to April 28 from 10am till 9.30pm daily at the Atrium, Basement Level 1, Palace 66, 128 Zhongjie Lu, Shenhe District, Shenyang. Admission is free. People from all walks of life are welcome to visit the exhibition and get a glimpse of the colourful lives in Hong Kong, Asia's world city.

To assist Hong Kong residents and enterprises to capitalise on the opportunities brought about by the development of the northeastern region, the HKSAR Government further expanded its network of offices in the Mainland by establishing the LLU on December 29 last year. Under the purview of the Office of the Government of the HKSAR in Beijing, the LLU strives to strengthen Hong Kong's connections with the government agencies in Liaoning Province, promote economic and trade relations, and provide support to Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the related areas. For assistance and enquiries, Hong Kong residents living in Liaoning can contact the LLU by phone at (86 24) 2318 8123 or by email at llu@bjo.gov.hk.
