The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, today (April 13) expressed his profound sadness at the passing of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Dr Rayson Huang.
"Dr Huang was the first Chinese Vice-Chancellor of HKU and a person with vision. He dedicated himself to promoting the development of higher education in Hong Kong and led HKU to become a world-class institution.
Dr Huang was the Vice-Chairman of the Basic Law Consultative Committee, on which I worked with him for many years. He was actively involved in the work for Hong Kong's return to the Motherland and made significant contributions to both our country and Hong Kong.
On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Dr Huang's family," Mr Leung said.
