Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre to open on April 23 (with photos)
******************************************************

The Tiu Keng Leng Sports Centre, which has set up the first outdoor climbing wall meeting the international sports climbing competition standard in Sai Kung District, together with outdoor open space, will open for public use next Thursday (April 23).  It is the sixth indoor sports centre managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) in the district, providing quality leisure and sports facilities and green space to nearby residents.

The 12-metre-high climbing wall has three lanes of different levels of climbing difficulty and another two lanes for climbers' speed training, which gives members of the public and climbers the opportunity to show their skills there.

Other facilities in the sports centre that will also open at the same time include a multi-purpose arena that can be used as two basketball courts, two volleyball courts or eight badminton courts; six multi-purpose rooms (two of which will be provided with three table-tennis tables); a children's play room and an indoor jogging track.  The fitness room is expected to open in August this year.

Apart from the various leisure and sports facilities inside the sports centre, there will also be a unique two-storey district open space of one hectare outside. An array of facilities, including a landscape sitting-out area, a lawn, a fitness corner for the elderly, fitness stations and a children's playground, will open round the clock in the open space.

The students' study room in the Tiu Keng Leng Public Library, which is adjacent to the sports centre, has been in use since March 1 this year.  The public library is also scheduled to open later this year.

The sports centre is easily accessible at 2 Chui Ling Road, Tseung Kwan O, and is next to Tiu Keng Leng MTR station.  Its opening hours are from 7am to 11pm daily, except on the second and fourth Monday of every month when the sports centre will be closed from 7am to 1pm for regular maintenance.

Members of the public can book the facilities of the sports centre from tomorrow (April 14) via the Leisure Link computerised booking system, booking counters, self-service kiosk, or by telephone reservation through the telephone services centre in accordance with LCSD's booking procedure for leisure and sports facilities.  For enquiries, please call the venue staff at 2481 5033.
