Museum of History invites public to vote for favourite historical photos
*******************************************************

A historical photograph not only records traces of life in a place, but also carries precious collective memories. An exhibition entitled "Hong Kong.psd Historical Photos" is being held at the Hong Kong Museum of History from today (April 1) to June 1. Members of the public are invited to select their favourite photo from the 10 historical photos being exhibited.

The exhibition is co-organised by the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong University Master of Arts in Chinese Historical Studies Alumni Association and the Design and Cultural Studies Workshop, with support from the Moonchu Foundation. Featuring 10 historical photos of Hong Kong taken in the 19th and 20th centuries, the exhibition aims to showcase the social outlook and lifestyles of Hong Kong in the past.

During the exhibition period, members of the public can view the photos for free at the Upper Piazza of the Museum of History and vote for their favourite one in person at the 1/F main lobby of the Museum of History or vote online via www.hkpsd.org . The voting result will be announced in July.

To tie in with the exhibition, two sessions of talks (in Cantonese) entitled "Into Historical Photos" will be held from 10.30am to 12.30pm on April 18 and May 9 at the Lecture Hall of the museum. Renowned collector and Expert Advisor of the Museum of History, Mr Cheng Po-hung, and the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Collectors Society, Mr Alan Cheung, will share their experiences in collecting historical photos of Hong Kong. The Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong University Master of Arts in Chinese Historical Studies Alumni Association, Mr Ma Koon-yiu, will also give a brief introduction to the 10 historical photos in the exhibition. Admission is free. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Hong Kong Museum of History is located at 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. The opening hours are from 10am to 6pm on weekdays, and 10am to 7pm on weekends and public holidays. It is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays).
