Spectacular flower show at Victoria Park closes tomorrow (with photos)

     The annual spectacular Hong Kong Flower Show at Victoria Park will close at 9pm tomorrow (March 29). Members of the public who wish to see the tens of thousands of beautiful flowers at the event should not miss the last chance to visit.

     Featuring "When Blossoms Dance" as the main theme, the flower show has attracted more than 200 organisations from 18 countries to take part in showcasing exquisite potted plants, beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays. More than 350 000 flowering plants are on display, among which are 8 000 pots of the theme flower oncidium.

     The main attractions include a mosaiculture display featuring exotic birds with brilliant plumage, while an impressive sea of blossoms in an undulating landscape of spring flowers alongside a colourful tulip display is attracting crowds of visitors taking photos.

     A series of fringe activities have been arranged to complement the flower show including music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, green activities workshops and fun games. Among them was the Jockey Club Student Drawing Competition that was held last week and had its prize presentation ceremony take place today (March 28).

     The competition was conducted in four categories. Winning entries by the champion, the first and second runners-up and those highly commended in each category are now on display at the showground. The champion winners of each category are as follows:

Junior Section in Primary School:
O Yuk-lam from North Point Methodist Primary School (AM)
Senior Section in Primary School:
Ma Yuen-ling from HKFEW Wong Cho Bau School
Junior Section in Secondary School:
So Lai-ting from Hong Kong True Light College
Senior Section in Secondary School:
Lai Yi-ching from Fanling Kau Yan College

     The flower show is open from 9am to 9pm. Admission tickets are being sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus cards can be used to pay for admission.

     Admission fees for the flower show are as follows:

Normal rate: $14
Concessionary rate: $7
* Children aged 4 to 14 and full-time students
* Senior citizens aged 60 or above
* Persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only)
