The Tai Po District Office and the Tai Po Youth Network is holding the Tai Po Youth Arts Festival 2015 - Youth on Song today (March 27) and tomorrow at Tai Po Civic Centre and the former Tai Po Government Secondary School.

Officiating at the opening ceremony, the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui, said that promoting the development of youth and arts at the district level is one of the major tasks of the Home Affairs Bureau. Ms Hui added that the event can arouse youngsters' interest in arts as well as promote one of the signature projects of the Tai Po District Council. The project involves converting the vacant premises of Tai Po Government Secondary School into an arts development centre with the collaboration of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council so as to promote the development of arts in the district.

Ms Hui visited some of the arts workshops and met with members of the Tai Po Youth Network who helped organise the event. She said that the event gave the youths an opportunity to organise a large-scale event and enriched their experiences.

The arts festival covers a wide range of activities. Apart from the workshops conducted by various arts organisations including the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Yiu Ming Sing Cantonese Opera, the Hong Kong Saxophone Association and the Hong Kong Institute of Education, a musical concert will also be held tonight. The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and former Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Mr Raymond Young have been invited to perform. After the concert, there will be a screening of the movie "My Voice, My Life", directed by Oscar-winning director Ruby Yang.

Other officiating guests at the opening ceremony included the Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Dr Wilfred Wong Ying-wai; the Chairman of the Tai Po District Council, Mr Cheung Hok-ming; and the District Officer (Tai Po), Mr Bassanio So.
