Fringe activities complement flower show at Victoria Park (with photos)
**********************************************************

The Hong Kong Flower Show at Victoria Park will close on Sunday (March 29). Featuring beautiful floral arrangements and gorgeous landscape displays, the flower show also offers a rich diversity of fringe activities for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages including music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, green activities workshops and fun games.

The "Happy Wonderland" on the park's lawns has been well received by youngsters, with fun-filled programmes including magic shows, balloon-twisting, face-painting, African drum playing, inflatable bouncers, arts-and-crafts stalls, games stalls and more. Equally entertaining are the marching band and music performances.

The starlit garden, a new attraction this year, is lit with intelligent fibre-optic lighting equipment, creating an array of colourful light beams alternating in response to music, creating an iridescent starlight fantasia for visitors.

Various programmes are being held on the stage, including rope skipping, artistic gymnastics, music and dance performances. There are also floral art demonstrations by masters from Japan and Hong Kong.

Featuring "When Blossoms Dance" as the main theme, the flower show has attracted over 200 organisations from 18 countries to take part. More than 350 000 flowering plants are on display, among which are 8 000 pots of the theme flower oncidium.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is presenting an attractive exhibit entitled "Energetic Hong Kong, a City in Motion". Another feature reveals a breathtaking sea of blossoms in an undulating landscape of spring flowers alongside a colourful tulip display, attracting crowds of visitors taking photos.

Other main attractions include a mosaiculture display entitled "Gorgeous Plumes" featuring exotic birds with brilliant plumage, a Brand Hong Kong floral wall, another floral wall depicting the 5th Hong Kong Games and spectacular landscape displays by local, Mainland and overseas organisations.

Members of the public can also enjoy photo-taking in the 3D painting experience zone, the flower show mobile application's fun camera, and interactive games.

The flower show is open from 9am to 9pm. Admission tickets are being sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus cards can be used to pay for admission.

Admission fees for the flower show are as follows:

Normal rate: $14
Concessionary rate: $7
- Children aged 4 to 14 and full-time students

- Persons with disabilities and their minders (each person can enjoy the concessionary rate with one minder only)

For enquiries, please call 2601 8260, fax 2691 7264 or visit the LCSD webpage www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/hkfs/2015/index.html .
