Winning gardens by Wong Tai Sin District and Tuen Mun District on display at Hong Kong Flower Show (with photos)
**********************************************************

Wong Tai Sin District's "Spring Flowers' Aerial Dance" and Tuen Mun District's "Green Wonderland" outshone competitors and won the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s Oriental Style Garden Plot Competition and Western Style Garden Plot Competition respectively at the Hong Kong Flower Show 2015.

The "Spring Flowers' Aerial Dance" garden was inspired by a poem by Tang dynasty poet Du Fu and the design was modelled on the Fan Pavilion in the famous Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou. Set against a backdrop of lush vegetation and blooming flowers, the pavilion is decorated with a latticed window and open portals. Together with other elements such as a small pond, a meandering path, an artistic rockery and a sculpted landscape, the garden presents a vibrant and vivid scene.

The design of "Green Wonderland" was inspired by the wonderlands of fairy tales. The garden features a small wooden cabin and a treehouse which blend harmoniously with the natural environment. With its green hills and clear streams, the garden becomes a secluded spot offering peace and tranquillity. And with spring in the air, the flowers are in full bloom. They sway in the breeze with fragrance spreading through the air.

Designed by the staff of the LCSD's District Leisure Services Offices, all entries in the Garden Plot Competitions are now on display at the flower show.

"When Blossoms Dance" is the main theme of this year's Hong Kong Flower Show, featuring more than 350,000 flowers and with the oncidium as the theme flower. The show runs until March 29 at Victoria Park.

The LCSD is also presenting an attractive exhibit entitled "Energetic Hong Kong, a City in Motion". The display showcases a huge hot air balloon made of beautiful flowers. The balloon is decorated with colourful oncidiums on the underside, while ribbon-like floral paths weave among giant mosaiculture butterflies and dancers in silhouette.

Other main attractions include a breathtaking sea of blossoms in an undulating landscape of spring flowers, a colourful tulip display and a mosaiculture display entitled "Gorgeous Plumes" featuring exotic birds with brilliant plumage and gorgeous landscape displays by local, Mainland and overseas organisations.

A starlit garden is illuminated every evening during the show period on the park's lawns, featuring intelligent fibre-optic lighting equipment to create an array of colourful light beams alternating in response to music.

Admission tickets are being sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus cards can be used to pay for admission.
