**********************************************************

The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will tomorrow (March 27) lead a delegation from Hong Kong to attend the International Summit on the Teaching Profession 2015 in Banff, Canada.

Jointly held by the Council of Ministers of Education of Canada, The Learning Partnership, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Education International between March 28 and 30, the event will bring together education ministers and leaders of teachers' unions from countries and regions with high-performing or rapidly improving education systems to discuss key issues in education policy and practice, as well as the teaching profession.

Before the summit there will be a series of seminars on a variety of professional issues such as pre-service teaching programmes in post-secondary education, information technology in the classroom, and early childhood education. The summit will then engage participants in discussions on leadership, recognition by society and teachers' sense of efficacy, and innovation strategies in education.

Mr Ng will also take the opportunity to meet with OECD representatives, Canadian Provincial Ministers of Education and other education ministers from around the world to exchange views on education issues of concern.

Arriving in Vancouver on March 27, Mr Ng will visit the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University to meet with the respective presidents and some Hong Kong students studying at the universities. He will also meet some local businessmen, community leaders and academics with strong links to Hong Kong.

Other members of the delegation will include the Principal Assistant Secretary for Education (Professional Development and Training), Mr Benjamin Yung; Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers and Principal of Fukien Secondary School (Siu Sai Wan), Dr Choi Yuk-lin; and Political Assistant to the SED, Mr Jeff Sze. The delegation will return to Hong Kong on April 1.

During Mr Ng's absence from Hong Kong, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
