Fatal Fire in Mong Kok

     A 91-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man died in a No. 1 alarm fire that broke out in Cosmopolitan Centre, 760 Nathan Road, Mong Kok, last night (March 24).

     The fire broke out at a domestic unit on the 12th floor of Cosmopolitan Centre at 11.34pm yesterday. The affected unit measures 7 metres by 10 metres, and was damaged by fire.

     Firemen used one jet and mobilised two breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze. The fire was largely put out at 12.04am today (March 25). About 80 occupants self-evacuated to places of safety. Firemen led eight occupants to places of safety.

     A 91-year-old female and a 61-year-old male, were found unconscious and rescued by firemen from the affected unit. They were sent to Kwong Wah Hospital and were certified dead at 12.16am and 12.23am respectively.

     A fireman sustained injuries to his hand when leading occupants to places of safety. He was sent to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.

     Initial investigations revealed no suspicious circumstances concerning the cause of the fire. Investigation is continuing.
