International IT Fest 2015 to showcase HK's developments and achievements in ICT (with photos/video)

     The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, in collaboration with the local information and communications technology (ICT) industry, will stage International IT Fest 2015 from April 9 to 24. It will feature a variety of events that showcase Hong Kong's vibrant developments and achievements in the ICT sector.

     Speaking at a press conference today (March 24), the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said, "The International IT Fest is now in its third edition. With enthusiastic support from the industry, the scale of this annual event has expanded over the years. It provides an ideal platform for industry players of local and overseas ICT sectors to share their experiences and foster co-operation.

     "This year's International IT Fest will focus on public participation, with an aim to enhance public understanding of the convenience and benefits that can be brought by technology developments and the joy of 'digital life'."

     International IT Fest 2015 will open on April 9 at the Central Harbourfront. The five-day Hong Kong Digital Life Carnival, where members of the public can experience the latest digital products, taste wines and sample food, will also begin on the same day. The finale concert, "Digital Inclusion Let IT Play", is a must-see event for youngsters.

     This year's International IT Fest will continue to offer a series of activities for students. These include collective coding by 1,000 students to set a world record during the opening ceremony, the Inter-School IT Elite Challenge with over 130 schools participating, and 36 IT exploration tours for secondary students to visit IT facilities and renowned technology companies in Hong Kong to learn more about the local ICT industry and stimulate their interest in IT.

     Mr So said, "The International IT Fest this year will feature a number of new pogrammes such as the forums and seminars in the Trade Chamber Series and the e-commerce events organised by Alibaba.com. In addition, we will adopt local inventions and products throughout the event to demonstrate the Government's active support for local innovation."

     Local inventions and products to be used in the International IT Fest include PiCode, which was developed by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Altai's smart outdoor WiFi antenna; the check-in and instant name-badge printing service provided by EventXtra; and the renowned events search engine, Timable.

     International IT Fest 2015 brings together over 50 ICT events, including the annual signature event, the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2015 Awards Presentation Ceremony, which recognises outstanding local IT applications and solutions; the International ICT Expo, which is the largest of its kind in Asia; and a series of seminars, symposiums, conferences, competitions, award presentations, recognition schemes, exhibitions and fun fairs. These events cover a wide range of ICT domains in which Hong Kong is developing quickly, such as cloud computing, start-ups, cyber security, mobile technology, the Internet of Things, digital entertainment, e-learning, digital inclusion and more, together presenting a showcase of interactive Hong Kong.
