**************************************************

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) held the sixth CEDD Construction Site Safety Award presentation ceremony today (March 23) to commend contractors with outstanding safety performance at its construction sites in 2014.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Civil Engineering and Development, Mr Hon Chi-keung, said the department accords top priority to the safety and health of site personnel, and strictly requires contractors to provide a safe working environment for their employees and frontline workers to ensure that construction works are carried out safely and effectively.

"The overall safety performance of the department last year remained at a high level. I hope that all the project teams as well as the whole construction industry will continue to work towards the goal of 'zero accidents'," said Mr Hon.

The CEDD Construction Site Safety Award Scheme was launched in 2009 with the aim of enhancing the safety culture and standards of the CEDD's construction sites. There are two types of award under the scheme: quarterly commendation letters and yearly CEDD Construction Site Safety Awards. A total of 45 commendation letters were issued this year to 19 contractors to commend their good safety performance, and nine of them were presented with the yearly safety awards today.

The list of awarded contractors of the sixth CEDD Construction Site Safety Award can be found in the annex.
