Missing patient from Pok Oi Hospital
************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Regarding a patient found missing from hospital, a spokesperson for the New Territories West Cluster made the following appeal today (March 21):

A male patient aged 43 with cognitive impairment was found to have left Pok Oi Hospital without notifying hospital staff while he was waiting for transfer by non-emergency ambulance to his residing hostel for the mentally retarded yesterday (March 20) afternoon. The hospital was very concerned about the incident and had reported to the Police for assistance. Hospital foremen and security guards had been mobilised to search within the hospital compound, nearby local areas and major MTR stations.

The patient is about 1.6 metres tall, of medium build and with short hair. The patient, though with cognitive impairment, has good mobility and independent self-care ability. He was wearing an orange-green short sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes, with a patient's wrist band on his left wrist. According to CCTV footage, the patient was found leaving the hospital compound at around 4pm yesterday.

The hospital has informed the patient's relative and his residing hostel. The hospital appeals to the public to contact the Police or call the hospital hotline at 2486 8330 if they know the whereabouts of the patient.

Pok Oi Hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advanced Incidents Reporting System. The hospital will keep searching for the patient near the hospital compound and will fully co-operate with the Police to locate the patient.
