SCED speaks to media on Individual Visit Scheme
***********************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at a media session on the Individual Visit Scheme at the Legislative Council Complex today (March 19):

Reporter: (On the discussion on multiple-entry Individual Visit Endorsements between the HKSAR Government and the Mainland authority.)

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: Thank you for your question. Actually the dialogue is an on-going process and the HKSAR Government from time to time will relay the latest information and developments in Hong Kong to the relevant (Mainland) authority. I believe the Central Government is well aware of the situation in Hong Kong. It is still an on-going development and as you could read from reports today that even MICE (meetings, incentive travels, conventions and exhibitions) visitors are affected. I would call upon people to stop radical actions that would undermine the quality of the tourism industry in terms of the quality of service we provide. The tourism sector tries very hard to give a very positive experience to our tourists, and this sort of radical activities is not conducive to our development. I would call on all parties who participate in these radical actions to stop what they are doing right now. Thank you.
