Wounding case in Central reclassified as manslaughter

     Police today (March 18) reclassified a wounding case in Central on March 15 as manslaughter.

     At about 4.45pm that day, Police received a report that a 58-year-old male public officer was found collapsed outside 25 Des Voeux Road Central. He was sent to Queen Mary Hospital in unconscious state where he was certified dead at 4.55pm today.

     Initial investigations revealed that the deceased was suspected to have been pushed to the ground by a South Asian male and then collapsed.

     Police arrested a 36-year-old South Asian male in Central yesterday (March 17) and laid a holding charge against him with one count of manslaughter today. He will appear before Eastern Magistrates' Courts for mention tomorrow (March 19).

     A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death.

     Active investigations by District Crime Squad of Central District are underway.
