Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 692 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 44 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (March 16).
  
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 266 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
  
     A total of 548 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 144 for other traffic offences.
  
     Two pedestrians and 117 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
  
     Statistics revealed that a total of 452 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to February this year, of which 146 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 39.7 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
