Update on cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) gave the following update today (March 16) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) carriers in a male medical ward:

     The hospital has stepped up screening procedures and confirmed one more patient, who is 91 years old, as an MDRA carrier today but without clinical symptoms. The patient is being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     QEH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
