Secretary for Justice on constitutional reform
**********************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, after attending a radio programme today (March 14):

Secretary for Justice: What we will be doing is to make use of this month¡¦s time to consider the views which we received during the second stage of the consultation. After that, we would put forward our proposal to the Legislative Council. From then on, we would of course, on the one hand, explain to the people of Hong Kong why we come up with this proposal and what are the advantages of the proposal. In the course of which, we would continue to engage the general public and also of course, to engage members of the Legislative Council. We wish to have a rational dialogue with every sector of Hong Kong. I think it's important at this critical juncture of our constitutional development, when there are only a few months left. I think it is most important for people of Hong Kong to sit down, to remain rational, and to engage with each other, rather than to just put forward some political gestures which would have negative impact on the rational discussion of the way forward. We only have a few months' time and I repeat that because it is really crucial that we make the best use of the remaining few months so that we can have the proposal passed in the Legislative Council, comes June or July.
