Horn Orchestra of Russia to showcase varied repertoire
******************************************************

One of the major attractions of the Festival of Russian Culture in Hong Kong, the Horn Orchestra of Russia, will perform for local patrons on April 1.

The Orchestra's repertoire is very varied, maintaining the traditions of horn music while also adding new compositions. For the coming Hong Kong performance, it will play pieces by modern composers as well as old masters, including works by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bach, Rossini, Denza, Caccini and others.

Formed in 2006 by Sergey Polyanichko, the Orchestra's artistic director and conductor, the Horn Orchestra of Russia is primarily dedicated to reviving the traditions of horn music. Today the orchestra possesses 74 instruments with a range of four octaves, a unique achievement because of their form and sound. All the instruments have been hand-made by the skilled master and musician Vladimir Goloveshko. The orchestra consists of 20 musicians including students and graduates of the St Petersburg Conservatory, laureates of Russian and international competitions, and artists of symphony orchestras and musical theatres of St Petersburg. The musicians sometimes use different arrangements and approaches to realise ambitious and innovative ideas. With its enthusiasm and devotion to music as well as its undertaking of experimental challenges, the Horn Orchestra of Russia has, in a short period of time, earned deep respect among professional musicians, historians, music critics and audiences.

The concert will be staged at 8pm on April 1 (Wednesday) in the Concert Hall at Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $150, $180 and $220 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis). Group booking and package booking discounts are also available. Please refer to the programme leaflet for details.
