Seminar at HK Central Library to explore risks and opportunities in traditional newspaper industry in new media era

     With the rapid development of Internet technology, traditional media is being critically challenged by the rise of new media. The Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a seminar entitled "The Risks and Opportunities of the Traditional Newspaper Industry in the New Media Era" under the "Journalism and Communication" series, at 3pm on March 28 (Saturday) at the Lecture Theatre on G/F of Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL). Professionals from an academic institute, newspaper media and the cultural field will come together to discuss and analyse from different angles the role of traditional newspapers in the new media era, the challenges facing the newspaper industry and the future trends in dissemination of news and information.

     Experienced journalist Ms Jo Ngai will be the presenter of the session and the three guest speakers will be Professor Clement So from the School of Journalism and Communication of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; the Chief Operating Officer of Medianet Resources Limited, Mr Kevin Lau; and cross-media cultural pundit Mr Lau Sai-leung.

     The seminar will be conducted in Cantonese. Free admission tickets will be available starting from tomorrow (March 14) at the Arts Resource Centre on 10/F of HKCL. Each person may obtain two tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

     Live video broadcast will be available at the Extension Activities Room on 8/F of Kowloon Public Library and the User Education Hall on G/F of Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Public Library. Members of the public are also welcome to reserve the Internet and Digital Services Workstations at any public library for live viewing via the Multimedia Information System of the Hong Kong Public Libraries.
