Seven Hong Kong movies are being presented in the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan from March 6 to 15, giving Japanese movie lovers a chance to feel the vibrancy of Hong Kong while enjoying the films.

With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo, the festival this year is running a special programme entitled "Special Focus on Hong Kong" for the fourth time in a row.

The seven selected movies comprise six produced by up-and-coming as well as well-known filmmakers - "Dot 2 Dot", "Aberdeen", "Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2", "Full Strike", "The Golden Era" and "Sara" - as well as a documentary, "I am Bruce Lee", presented in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Bruce Lee's birth.

As a highlight of the event, a "Hong Kong Night" was held this evening (March 12), during which "Dot 2 Dot", directed and produced by first-time filmmaker Amos Why, was shown to some 200 movie fans.

Speaking before the movie screening, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Sally Wong, said Hong Kong is a city of creativity and character.

"In the past 10 years, Hong Kong movies and film talents have won over 300 international awards. International interest in Hong Kong films is also reflected in Hollywood acquiring rights to remake Hong Kong movies.

"A free and vibrant city with open borders and open minds, Hong Kong is characterised by our unique mixture of Eastern and Western cultures, with a free flow of information and freedom of expression," she said.

Emphasising that the Government is keen to support and promote the creative industries, Ms Wong pointed out that the movie "Dot 2 Dot" selected for screening at "Hong Kong Night" was supported by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

At the movie screening, Ms Wong was joined by director Amos Why and actresses Susan Shaw and Candy Cheung from the movie "Dot 2 Dot"; director Herman Yau from the movie "Sara"; and directors Derek Kwok and Henri Wong from the movie "Full Strike".
