The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore, Mr Fong Ngai, today (March 11) received a delegation of the Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations (FHKDA) on a five-day expedition to Singapore.

The 21-strong delegation with representatives from various Hong Kong design associations was briefed by Mr Fong on the HKETO's role and work, the economic outlook of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economies, and the potential business opportunities in ASEAN for Hong Kong design industry players.

Mr Fong said he was glad to see the efforts of the FHKDA in seeking closer partnerships with industry members in ASEAN. The Hong Kong-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement being negotiated would further enhance economic integration and trade growth in the region, he added.

"With a growing middle class in ASEAN, the demand for design services is bound to increase. More exchanges with the growing creative industries in ASEAN will surely bring benefits to the growth and sustainable development of the creative industries in Hong Kong," he said.

The FHKDA delegation is being led by the Secretary General of the FHKDA and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre, Mr Freeman Lau, to attend a series of events and company visits to establish and renew contacts in Singapore during Singapore Design Week.
