Territory-wide campaign to promote safe driving
***********************************************

Police yesterday (March 10) concluded a one-week territory-wide campaign to promote safe driving among drivers of public service vehicles and goods vehicles.

This was the latest in an ongoing series of campaigns conducted by the Police using publicity, education and enforcement to target moving traffic offences.

The campaign resulted in the issue of 10 verbal warnings, 225 summonses, 3 219 fixed penalty tickets and the arrest of one driver for drink driving offences.

Among the 3 444 summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued, 1 198 were issued for speeding, 303 for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, 178 for seatbelt-related offences and 100 for failing to comply with traffic light signals.

Officers from Police Regional Road Safety Teams visited 201 locations throughout the territory and distributed more than 9 200 leaflets to drivers of public service vehicles, goods vehicles and members of the public.

Members of the public can call the 24-hour Police Transport Hotline 2754 7668 direct to report driving misbehaviour of public light bus drivers.
